We are on day 5 post-surgery. Hudson is doing well, bruises have popped up but the swelling has gone down quite a bit. He has his fussy periods and he is really getting tired of the liquid diet. Sometimes he totally refuses everything, even ice cream.
Sleeping has also gotten less. He seems to be struggling with some sleep apnea. Some nights it is worse than others, can't figure out why that is but every 3rd or
4th breath he will quite breathing. Last night I ended up holding him on and off as it was the only way he would sleep. He woke up about four and his face was covered in blood as were the sheets. My heart sank and couldn't wait for morning to roll around and call the doctor. I figured his palate had opened up....well, the dr. didn't feel like he needed to see us. It wasn't bright red blood (bad) but dark and he felt like it was old blood, maybe some that had been in his nose and finally drained into his mouth. He told me that if you continued to bleed and was swallowing it he would throw up as it would make him sick. Phew....I will feel better when we see the dr. Monday.
Other than that he is hanging in there. We are starting to see the Hudson we know start to come around. He is smiling again now that the swelling has gone down quite a bit although it isn't fully gone. He isn't really using his words yet. He seems very cautious with what he does with his mouth/tongue which is understandable.
Congrats to those fellow AW'ers who received referrals, RA's and TA's the last few weeks. It is always so exciting to see those announcements and I can recall like it was yesterday.....SO excited for all of you!!!
Thanks Carla for the great blog makeover (once again)! You are awesome!!!
