This is what he does when we say "smile"...

One Month with Hudson

One month ago today we meet Hudson. It is hard to believe that only a month has gone by as we can't remember what life was like without him. And then again....a whole month?
This is some of what Hudson has done since he has been a Texan.
-Met so many friends who have prayed for him and faithfully watched our trip to China. A month ago, even three weeks ago he was pretty standofish with pretty much everyone but me. Now he will be happy (most of the time) to give hugs and kisses to anyone he sees is a friend of mom and dad. He still doesn't want either one of us out of his sight but has become very comfortable with those he knows we know.
-Attended church (3 times) and even went to the nursery with dad last Sunday.
-Went to work with both mom and dad.
-A pediatrician visit, shots and a craniofacial visit. We expect his first surgery within six weeks.
-Shopping trips to buy clothes that fit...12-18 months for this 2 1/2 year old....even those are big!
-Several trips to school, lunch with the girls and served as a visual aid for Madalyn's history project.
-Met his Nanny, Aunt Nicole, Aunt Erika, Uncle Don and cousins, Rebecca and Hannah, Whitley and Timothy.
-Met Landry Claire, another Asian beauty whose family has been such a treasure to us. They were behind our meals when we came home and have so faithfully encouraged and prayed for us. We love you guys!
-Several lunches with the posse and posse kids...
-First library day, story hour and playgroup.
He has also learned to: roll over, run, (c0uldn't do these things pre-adoption), sign eat, please, more, thank you, and attempts I love you, (can't quite get those two middle fingers down), shakes his head no and nods yes, raises the roof, gives five, dances, and tonight appeared to discover he could yell...REALLY loud...he spent a long time chasing dad around yelling and laughing. He also sings when we get in the car.

He is like a sponge, soaking up everything he can and imitating everything. He seems to understand most of what we say and loves to go. Once again, made perfect for our family. With 3 busy kids I don't know what we would have done if he didn't like to be on the go. He points to the door if we are home too long.

We continued to be humbled that God gave us this child. He has brought us such unspeakable joy and we still look at each other and say "can you believe he is ours?".

The following pictures show just a few moments of the last few weeks.

SUPRISE!!!!

Another teenager in the house!!

Madalyn turned 13 on Friday!!!! She was SO suprised with a party given to her by two of her dear friends, Anna and Caroline. These sweet girls are from our homeschooling days and have stayed the best of friends with Madalyn and Kailee. Anna's mom called me the day before we left for China and said the girls wanted to throw Madi a suprise party and would I mind? Wow!!!! These girls sent out all the invitations to the girls in Madi's class at school, decorated, had games, the cake and came up with the theme..."Red Carpet Hollywood". Madi's classmates did an excellent job of not giving her any hints and she was SO suprised!! She was getting a bit irritated with us on Friday as we were not making a big deal of her b'day. I was continuing to use the "recovery from China' excuse and it worked. I wish I had a picture of her face when she walked in and all the girls jumped out in their hair and makeup yelling "SUPRISE!". You can still see it in her face in the picture above!!

Madalyn continues to bring us joy as she grows into the beautiful young woman that God intends her to be. She is always kind hearted, caring deeply about others feelings, wanting all her friends to know Jesus, working hard in school and taking such good care of her little brother. She will be an excellent mommy one day!!

It is hard to believe I now have two teenagers. Having Hudson in our lives reminds me just how quickly the time flies. How we must cherish our days with each of them!!!!

Thank you Anna and Caroline (and Jody and Jody's mom......you guys rock!!! Just to let you know what a cool friend Jody is, she was going to be out of town up until the time of the party. She emailed me earlier in the day and her flight had been cancelled and she wouldn't be in town until 10pm that night...she said...."party on". The party included a slumber party with Madi, Kailee, Anna, Caroline and Hannah, who is headed to China May 1st to get her brother. Jody's mom stood in until Jody got home,,,what friends!!).

Such sweet friends!!!

My Hollywood sister....

This is one of Hudson's many silly looks....I think it says what he thinks of his Hollywood sister....

Bath time makes me happy!!

Hudson has come to love his baths. It helps that Madi and Kailee make bath time lots of fun and they love to help. He would get a bath two times a day if they had their way.

Dad is sooo fun!!

Oh man, I LOVE dinner time!

Glad to be home.

We made it home and after mostly recovering from jet lag we are getting back to our "new" normal. We arrived at DFW at 12:30 am on Saturday morning due to a slight delay in Chicago. Our AMAZING friends Dan, Renee and Jake McAtee, Pam Sanza and Branda and Mattie McEwen met us at the airport. We were shocked as it was so late. Our flight home went much better than expected with a 2 year old and Hudson slept several hours (although Mark and I didn't). We got home at 2 am and were wide awake since we were on 3 pm China time. We let Hudson explore his new home till about 4 then off to bed we all went.
Once again our awesome friends decorated our house and stocked our kitchen and had meals set up for us for several days.
Hudson is doing great although he seems a bit lost during the day when everyone is gone. He comes alive when the kids and Mark get home. Last night was the first night he slept all night and this mama was so happy. I was running on fumes from my last goodnight sleep last Wednesday night in China.
It is great to be home. We felt so loved and cared for while gone with so many of you following along and those of you here in Sherman warmly welcoming us home.
I will post on my Thankful Thursday all the answered prayers while we were gone. They truly got us through with flying colors!!!
Hudson is learning new things daily. Tonight the kids taught him some dance moves....very entertaining.
I will continue to update our blog with Hudson news.....we will have our first visit to our craniofacial team the end of the month and expect his first surgery sometime this summer.

Texas...here I come!!!!!!

Goodbye from China

It is with mixed emotions that I post my final blog from China. This has been the most amazing experience of my life and for those that know me, my oldest dream. The Lord is so very faithful. We will forever hold dear this amazing country that has given us our beautiful son and brother. We will treasure our memories here and our friendships that have been forged through some of the most difficult times leading up to March 27th and some of the most joyous days thereafter.
The pictures below sum up what God has accomplished in the last two weeks. When Liang Xiao Yue was placed in my arms Sunday, March 30th he fought me with all the two year old strength he had. Mark and I watched him fall asleep that night moaning and rubbing his own face, always pushing my hands away if I tried to touch him. Last night as I put Hudson Xiao Teague to bed he placed my hand on his face and moved it around his face until he fell asleep. We were saddened that first night as we thought about all those nights he had put himself to sleep alone. No more, baby boy....your forever family will never leave you!!! We are blessed beyond words at how God has answered so many specific prayers and soon I will post them.

Thank you to all of you who have prayed for us, supported us and followed our journey with us. Your comments have meant so much to us and your prayers have carried us to China and will carry us home.

We can't wait to see our family and friends back in Texas. We miss home!!

To our travel group....you know how we are feeling. You are all amazing people and we truly do love each one of you. To Abby, Maggie, Andrew, Micah, Katie Grace, Jade, Jocelyn, Joshua and Lilly, you are all precious and we are so blessed we know you. The Lord has amazing plans for each of you!!

My gabby girls...I love you ladies, couldn't have done it without you guys!!

Mom and dad....we will forever cherish this time with you. THANK YOU for coming along.

Goodnight from China.......

We will miss you all...we love you guys!!!

Hudson LOVES to eat and this morning discovered we thought he was pretty funny when he put his breakfast all over his face. He also decided men being in his life wasn't so bad. He now goes to the entire family..yeah!!!

Wednesday

Today we celebrated Kailee's birthday. Eleven years ago today in Tulsa, OK Kailee Elizabeth, lil' bit, was born. Who ever would have thought we would be celebrating her eleventh birthday in China? (God DOES give us the desires of our hearts!). We have been blessed beyond belief by all FOUR of our kids and continue to marvel at the uniqueness that each of them brings to the Teague clan. Kailee is an awesome daughter, sister and friend and although she is no longer the baby of the family she will always be our baby girl...no matter how old she gets!!! We love you lil' bit!!

We spent the morning in our room in case the consulate had questions for us as they processed Hudson's visa to get back in the U.S. Once we got the call we were free to go we headed to Pizza Hut for lunch, Kailee's choice and then took a taxi to Beijing Street to experience yet another shopping trip in China. We have learned to ignore, well all but Mark that is, the constant vendors in your face and just keep walking. Once back at the hotel we rested awhile before heading off to the Banana Leaf for a Thai dinner. It was very good but the highlight of the evening was the entertainment. My parents ended up stealing the show!!! Tollefsons and Wangens, I have NEVER seen dad move like that....Oh heavens, WHERE was our video camera? We laughed so hard we cried. Kailee then had Happy Birthday sung to her and had to do her own little jig. We topped it off with birthday cake that mom and I found at a bakery and headed back to the hotel.

Tomorrow is our last day here. It feels like we have been gone for months and yet hard to believe that our two weeks is coming to an end. We will spend the morning packing and then head off to Shaiman island one last time for Red Couch pictures, our swearing in ceremony and some last purchases. We have mixed emotions about leaving....so much has occured in two weeks and wonderful friendships formed but we are all ready to return to our new normal.

I will do one final post tomorrow from China complete with pictures of our little China princes and princesses decked out in their traditional Chinese clothes.....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KAILEE!!!

Dinner at Banana Leaf where Grandpa and Mema let loose!!!

Tuesday

It takes so long to load pictures here and I loaded the wrong one. I meant to put one on of all of us including my parents at the gardens....They really are here with us!!
We had a nice morning strolling through the beautiful gardens although it is very warm.
After lunch we took a taxi over (quite the experience) to the islands to do some casual shopping. We have been very rushed the last two days going with the whole group so this was nice and slow and we were able to get gifts we have been looking for.
We meet up with Denise, Kristy and Maggie and Jenn and Abby along with Joshua's parents for dinner at Lucy's. It was very nice to have something resembling home.....Denise and I both want guac with chips and salsa when we get home...and something cold with ICE!!!
Two more days here...we will be sad to leave but so happy to head home. I am dreading the long flight but so far Hudson has been a great traveler. He gets very relaxed anytime we go anywhere, just hanging out in my lap...13 hours on a plane though may be a different story.
He has learned so many things in the short time we have had him. He is starting to attempt to say "up" when he wants to be carried instead of his growl that he uses for everything. He can give five, "knuckles", drink from a cup, give kisses, gentle touches instead of hitting all the time, and his walk has picked up some. He now has a little more purpose to his step instead of the "aimless orphanage walk" he did the first week. He is more relaxed when we venture out and even will sit in his stroller without crying. He still wants to be carried by me more than anything else but has come a long way.

We are continually blessed that out of all the babies in China we were chosen to be his family. We know every family feels that way. It is so true that God chose each one of them to be placed within each specific family. For all of you still waiting to meet your little ones KNOW that the Lord is in the middle of each detail. You will be blown away at His perfect design.

Fun at the gardens

Successful bathtime finally!

First time Hudson enjoyed his bath. I got in with him at first and then Kailee took over. NO crying. We then put him in his new traditional pj's...now sweetly snoring in his crib..

"Year of the Rat" slippers...and chubby ankles..

Monday....

Today Mark spent the morning doing paperwork while Hudson took a morning nap. After lunch we headed back to Shaiman Island to do the kids medical exams and more shopping. Hudson responded to the medical exam like we expected, not at all excited about anyone messing with him. He weights 25 pounds and was the shortest two year old at about 32 inches....
He enjoyed playing with Abby and Maggie this afternoon and did a little modeling for us in his traditional Chinese outfits. We will get better pictures of him on Wed when we take Red Couch pictures.
Every day that goes by, we long for home more and more....we miss you all.

Shopping wears a guy out.

Sunday in Guangzhou

We have lost of all track of time and days but yes, we are finishing out our Sunday here and our first week with Hudson. It is hard to believe a week ago tonight this wild, angry, scared boy was placed in my arms. Tonight he spent some time with just the girls and the other kids while the rest of the family walked around some streets behind our hotel. Then he was content to stay with Grandpa and Mema while Mark, Jordan and I ventured out for some dinner to bring back. He seems happier and more relaxed every day. He still won't let Mark carry him and although he loves to play with Mark, Jordan and Madi, Kailee and I are the only two who can carry him. He has turned into quite the love bug....giving out kisses to our family when asked and hugging me often. He has gone down for every nap and bedtime crying which turns into a moan while he rubs his face, tummy or arms. He has always pushed my hand away if I try to do this. Today for nap time he fussed quite a bit and since I was so tired with a terrible headache and really wanted a nap, I tried to lay him down with me. He immediately stopped fussing, let me put my arms around him and fell asleep. Tonight when I laid him down for bed in his crib he drifted right off without a whimper. He has become so smiley and continues to entertain us with his charming personality.
We have finally been reunited with all the families and have enjoyed getting to hear their stories from Gotcha day and getting to know the kids, every one of them beautiful!!
We were off this morning to Shaiman island for shopping. What a beautiful tropical place after the dry, barren, brown land of Lanzhou. We are not staying at the White Swan but right in Guangzhou at the Asian International....we love it!!! We did venture into the White Swan and will take pictures on the Red Couch with the kids later this week. We spent most of our time pricing different items we are interested in and just checking out the many shops. We head back tomorrow afternoon for the kids medical exams after the 'paper party' in the morning.
Denise, Kristy, Kailee, my parents and I headed to Starbucks after lunch for a nice treat and Maggie and Hudson shared a carrot cake muffin. It is so fun spending time with the kids that we have prayed for these last many weeks as our families have bonded over email. This truly is an amazing time and one we will cherish forever.
My mission this week is to search out good quality pearls,,,,I should have bought them in Beijing but didn't so any suggestions would be appreciated.....
We have so enjoyed China and the people and experiences here but we are starting to long for home. We won't rush the week and will enjoy and take in as much as we can in our remaining days but will be ready to get back to our family and friends back in Texas.

Our last days in Lanzhou

We had our internet turned off last night before I was able to blog so I am catching you up on our last two days tonight. We had a nice last day in Lanzhou with the weather finally warming up. It was a national holiday here in China, a first for them so the city was bustling with many more people out enjoying a rare day off school and work. We spent the day walking the streets and buying a few things from Hudson's province, Gansu.
The best part of the day was finding a whole new world right behind our hotel. Here were the streets of the typical city people and the true markets. The girls vowed never to eat chicken again as they watched a man pick out a chicken, the lady cut it's head off (where it fell into a bucket of heads) and then it flopped around in large blue bucket for a few minutes before she removed it, soaked with blood and preceeded to pull it's feathers off. It was quite the education and one we glad we saw. Such a hard life for many people.
We were in bed early as we had to leave at 5:30 this morning and are now sitting in our LARGE and luxurious hotel room in Guangzhou...yeah!!! We have been reunited with the most of our travel group and enjoyed a heavenly meal at McDonalds. We haven't yet met all the kids as we arrived at different times but did spend a little time with Lilly, Maggie and Micah. Tomorrow we will all spend the day together once again. The friendships we have formed have been amazing and it is wonderful to be back together again. A few sick kids still. Andrew is feeling much better (thanks for your prayers for him) but little Micah is now sick and possibly Joshua. Maggie is feeling better and seemed to enjoy being around Abby and Hudson tonight.

As much as we wanted to leave Lanzhou, we were a little saddened to leave Gansu were Hudson was born. It is a bit bitter sweet...we will always hold dear this Province where our son was born and lived the first two years of his life. It would have been a hard life for him I am sure. It was obvious he was well loved and taken care of in Pingliang and we will forever be grateful to his Ayi's. We do leave behind his birthplace and his birthparents and one day hope to return with him to show him this land of beautiful culture and people. Thanks you Gansu for your gift to us!!!!

A few more sights from Lanzhou

What a way to end the day....

We had more firsts today but this was the best one. Hudson has been showering me with kisses starting yesterday. Tonight I asked him for one then said "Give Daddy a kiss"....and he did!!!! (and it wasn't just one, he continued to kiss him, he would actually hold his lips on Mark's for several seconds until Mark couldn't hold back his laughter) It is amazing the English he understands in just a few days. He also said "up" today when he wanted me to hold him and did let Mark hold him for about 7 seconds...He is our source of entertainment!! The Lord couldn't have made him anymore perfect for our family.
Please pray for little Andrew, one of our travel families. He has been running a fever the last two days and after a trip to the hospital tonight they found out he has strep throat. They are first time parents and exhausted. Our travel plans to Guangzhou have been put off until Sat due to the national holiday here tomorrow. We were all so disapointed but I am sure this is better for Andrew, one more day of rest and getting those antiobiotics to work before a very long day for us Sat. We have to leave the hotel at 5:30 am for an hour drive to the airport, a four hour flight to Guangzhou and then our medical exams and 2 hours of paperwork. Pray also for his parents, Lisa and Kevin. Lisa is hoping she is just dealing with allergies and not getting sick herself. We are all glad we are here together!!! (I have added several pictures so you may need to click on older posts to view them all).

He now knows what the camera is and thinks he is pretty cute.
